10 Months

I’m just as shocked as usual that I’m already writing a summary for 10 months! Time is flying by!

It seems like Ben gets to try a new food every day. This month we tried great northern beans (loved them), Greek yogurt with fruit purée mixed in (mango and peach), homemade chicken noodle soup, rotisserie chicken and many more. He is a huge fan of chicken so we give that to him often. He is still nursing 4 times a day (morning, after both naps, and at bed time) but we could probably cut it down to 3 if we really wanted to. Nursing after nap time gives him a safe transition period before he has to really be awake and if I skip it, he is a grouch for a while.

Ben popped out two new teeth over the first week of July. He got both of his front top teeth with the left one poking through first. He was a grouch this time around and spent most of each day yelling at me but that let up once the first one came in. I can’t seem to get a photo of them at this point (I’ve tried so many times!) but I’m sure I will eventually. We’re up to 4 total teeth now!

Ben has learned all sorts of new skills this month. He started turning the page when we read to him. Some books we’ve read often enough that he knows how long to pause on each page before turning the page! We’ve started to pull toys out of storage that are meant to be interacted with instead of just shaken or chewed on. Ben has a My Pal Scout B’s aunt gave him for Christmas that says his name, favorite food and color, and sings lots of songs that I picked out. Ben hasn’t quite figured out how to make it sing to him yet but he loves it when it does. I bought him a piano at a consignment store and he loves that too. We also opened a geometric stacker toy that is still a bit beyond him, skill-wise, but he loves taking all the parts off the base.

Ben also figured out how to wave! It is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

The biggest milestone he reached this month is army-crawling! Instead of rolling everywhere, he can now go straight forward and around furniture. We haven’t finished the custom baby gate for our stairs yet so our family room is blocked with the normal gate and all cords and computers are hidden. This kid can move!

I finally committed to changing the rise in his diapers and we haven’t had many leak issues. We started double stuffing his diapers for nap time because that always seemed to be the time he’d leak and, surprise, he started napping longer and doesn’t have any wet clothes issues at nap time anymore. He is wearing a mix of 9 and 12 month clothes still. Most 9 month clothes still fit and most 12 month clothes are a bit big but they stay on even if the shorts go to his knees!

We did a bunch of traveling and day trips this month and he was really flexible. We spent a weekend in Chicago (B had a conference), a family reunion over the 4th, a memorial service for two great aunts on July 6, and all of us spent the night at Grammy and Grampy’s house (my parents) because B and I had an evening, no kids allowed wedding to attend. Ben can definitely still nap in his stroller but not as well as when he was tiny.
